Lovely little bungalow.. it feels like your own home as there is no reception so don’t go expecting service to be there in your face, instead expect them to be a quick phone call away. Very prompt on answering and very friendly. I personally really liked the hands off approach.The space itself is very clean, the beds are comfortable and the shower is great. The only downside was the thin walls.

Once again a very pleasant stay. We were welcomed on arrival by our host Sandy Sutherland and as usaul Sandy greeted us as if we were old friends that had not met for years, room was comfortable and spotless only downside was the Bar was closed due to Covid restrictions but outwith Sandy's control.Thanks Sandy and we will be back next year.

Great 2 night stay, room was immaculate as was bathroom, everything you needed for short stay.Also on booking asked for access to a fridge to store meds (insulin), owner Sandy went above and beyond and put a fridge in our room to use.Would highly recommend Thistle Inn, also very central to town and Sea front.Hope we get to stay again someday. I found this a really safe place to park my old motorcycle, on the stop over before the ferry to Larne, right opposite my room so I could watch over her.Its just a short walk from town and the owner was very helpful, arranging early check in and making good suggestions of where to go for a bite to eat

I stayed here with a friend sharing a twin room (accessible). For the money I cannot fault the room it was clean, had tea and coffee facilities, shower gel and soap, and comfy beds. Parking right outside the chalet, a great stop to explore or for the ferry. Sandy and his wife areso friendly and helpful. Would happily return and pass on this recommendation to friends. Only negative I encountered a large 8 legged creature in the shower on the first night, friend saved me ! She removed said creature outside !

Lovely place good location

The Thistle Inn was a good place to overnight on our road trip of Scotland. It is very well placed to walk to the center of town. The availability of of street parking was a bonus. The thistle in was very quiet on our stay there, but I did hear our neighbors moving about. The room was functional but could do with a bit of an update. I would stay here again if I was in the Stranraer area.

Arrived and was not greeted, in fact the room was open, and the key inside, with my requirement to call the owner, who did not meet, just informed me the key was in the room. No breakfast as stated was given. The room inside is very poor, the bathroom is really tired and did not feel clean, security is also low level, so i put a chair against the door at night.All in all, i would not recommend this to anyone. really not nice, and also in a very poor and dangerous feeling part of the town

Stranraer is one of the safest places in the UK. in 30 years of trading,we have had no instances, the room doors are all fitted with 5 lock bolts .so why you put a chair at the door baffles me.We have full cctv coverage of the whole propertyWe did meet with the first person from your party and showed him to his room ,He said you were arriving later ,he would direct you to your room. during the Covid restrictions We are required to have as little contact with guests as possible , I thought you would understand this at least, Thankfully 99.9% of our guest think the rooms are very clean and tidy and worth the reasonable prices we charge,I am very angry with your unfair review and refute that the rooms were not clean.

The property is conveniently situated, less than 15 minutes from the Carinryan ferry.The room was small but provided all we needed, including a functioning shower, tea/coffee making facilities, a TV and very comfortable beds.Free parking. Excellent free wi-fi.Most importantly, a very nice, welcoming host.

Booked for my parents who have poor mobility. The room had direct access by ramp from the car park. The toilet and washing facilities were ideal for those with mobility problems. The staff were extremely helpful and made us feel welcome. I will certainly use this accommodation in future.

I was surprised to see the comfort and and size of the room , the location was central for a walk into town for shops restaurants and bars.I wish that I could have stayed more than one night I hope to get back again maybe for longer I will definitely recommend it to any one

Was looking for a small quaint place to stay for a quick overnight while in southern Scotland. Doesn’t have a ton of amenities but that’s not what we needed. Price point t was good. Bed could have been more comfortable and shower went from too hot to cold at times, but we managed. Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.

We are travelling with our daughter and son in law. My husband is 84 and I am 81 our daughter and son in law are both over sixty years old . We have travelled extensively. We found this accommodation was very good, and the location excellent. Thank you

The Thistle Inn was a great choice.A warm welcome, clean freshly painted rooms, comfy beds and parking.This is not an Inn as such as there is no food available but a friendly recommendation for somewhere to eat from out host was most successful.

Needed a overnight stop before catching the ferry. Room was clean and warm, and had the facilities we needed, including a kettle with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. Bedding and towels were scrupulously clean, as was the chalet and small bathroom. Decor was a wee bit dated, but considering we had a comfortable room, a hot shower, parking right outside the door and a short walk to town where we found plenty of pubs and places to eat, it was nothing we couldn't overlook.

Private off road parking outside the chalets which is so handy. Motel style accommodation is disable friendly, and ours had a walk in shower with bars too. The beds were extremely comfortable, and we slept like logs. Staff were friendly and charming, so much so, that we will stay here again.

My fiancé and I have stayed here twice now as a rest stop before our early morning ferry to Belfast. It's just perfect for our needs! on past occasions when catching the Cairnryan to Belfast Ferry it has been a mad dash to get the ferry after a 500 mile drive so this time we decided to travel up to Stranraer the day before and avoid any stress catching the ferry, the same was planned for the return trip.On arrival at the Thistle Inn it just looks like an ordinary pub, but drive to the rear and the terrace type ground floor rooms look most inviting, the double room was clean and nicely decorated and the en suite shower/toilet clean and well presented,heating was available and required as the temperature dropped during the evening, TV, wi-fi,tea and coffee were all available in the room,after a good nights sleep we set off for the ferry relaxed and in good spirits. On return from Ireland we stayed at the Thistle for another night before travelling to the Lake District, we occupied a similar room which was to the same standard as the other. Would recommend the Thistle Inn to anyone who needs a stopping off point at a reasonable cost.

The disabled chalet was value for money charged as very clean and beds very comfortable.Owners were very helpful and close to shops etc.One problem was the cold draft coming from the bathroom even with the door closed during the night.

I very much enjoyed my stay. The room was large and comfortable, with interesting architectural features, and the bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet and restful. It was not en suite, but the bathrooms were close and really ample for the number of rooms. I liked having the choice of a bath as well as a shower. Having the kitchen was welcome. I was able to eat a tasty take-away meal and keep milk in the fridge. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I was a bit sorry not to call in at the bar - just too tired after having been out all day! But it looked very cheerful and welcoming.

Very comfortable overnight stay . We were catching the early ferry from cairnryan and the thistle was very handy, only 15 minutes from the port. Will have no hesitation in doing the same thing next year. The only criticism was the door of our 16 year old grandsons chalet wouldn't lock from the inside and we had to lock him in!

Booked this accommodation at the last minute as I decided to travel a day earlier than expected to be nearer ferry. Easy online booking, great sized comfortable room (3) only downside was street noise which is not to Inn's fault as the town bars emptied. Stranraer is not a place we'd go out of our way to stay in - but the Thistle Inn Motel style cabin room was perfectly pleasant, comfortable, well supplied with necessaries and quietly situated, off the road. We just needed a night's sleep pre- ferry and this matched our requirements to a tee, and was great value.Stranraer Tandoori,just round the corner was an excellent find for a great tasting, well presented meal.

I had a one night stay in the Thistle Inn on Sat 09.01.16.I stayed in one of the chalets at the rear of the inn and found the chalet to be very comfortable.It was cold on arrival but as soon as I spoke to a member of staff the heating was turned on and it was warm in no time.I found all the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.Breakfast was great and Frieda serving was a delight, nothing was too much for her.I also used the bar during the Sunday and found the staff to be excellent.I would definitely use The Thistle Inn again if I'm ever down in the Stranraer area.

We stayed on Fri Sat Sun 3rd to 5th Oct2015.The room was clean the bed was clean and the shower room was clean. Only complaint there was no hot water in the washbasin. They were having problems with the heater. breakfast was not included. But there are plenty of places nearby like the Rendezvous. If you do go to the Thistle Inn You must attend the Karaoke on a Sat night. Best laugh we've ever had for a long time. Look out for Morris he's brilliant. Staff were excellent too and very friendly. We stayed in one of the chalets at the back.Very clean, light and airy.Nice décor but the pictures on the wall were too much and were from an old room??? they just looked out of place and were faded and colourless.Spoiled and otherwise lovely room.Breakfast room a bit tired looking but again clean.Food plentiful and tasty. We would come again.

Pulling in on our bicycles, we were a bit concerned...but once we saw how lovely and clean and quiet the rooms were...we could not have been happier.Great location...close to town but not right in it..a very easy stroll...the rooms were small but very well appointed and the showers were great! This inn is ideally situated for the ferry to Northern Ireland being only 5 miles from the terminals. I found the accommodation perfect for a nights' break in journey. I was met on arrival by Freda and she showed me immediately to my room which was immaculate and very comfortable indeed. Breakfast,too was excellent. Alround the Inn is friendly, comfortable and welcoming. I shall be booking again.

We stayed overnight before catching ferry and found the Inn to be very convenient and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable. There was a problem with heating when we arrived and this took a couple of hours to be fixed. In the meantime the staff could not do enough to provide heaters and ensure we were comfortable. We would certainly stay here again.

Arrived and was show to a chalet which was clean tidy and well equipped for what we needed. The lady who showed us to the chalet explained that there was a festival on in town if it was something that we would like.Only downside to our stay was that as we were leaving so early the next morning it would have been nice to have had a breakfast in a box ( fruit, bread rolls juice ) as we had paid for a breakfast, part from that had a good night sleep and the shower worked well which is alway a bonus when you have had a long drive.

Thank you for a lovely night , the room was very tidy and warm and the bed was very comfortable.In the morning breakfast was veryenjoyable and I would recommend your hotel to any of my friends who werein need of somewhere to stay whilst in stranrearr for whatever reason.So marks out of 10 where 10 very pleased and 1 is not pleased at all I am happy if allowed to give you and your staff 11 out of 10

Staff were friendly, Room was clean and homely, shower was HOT! Really well situated, reasonably priced and the breakfast was lovely!

Excellent accommodation, spotlessly clean and most comfortable. Ideal base for touring as well. Breakfast was delicious and again, lovely clean breakfast room. Thanks for the experience, will return if we need to travel back down that way. Will recommend to friends.

We stayed in the large family room, it was clean,warm and comfortable. No on suit but not a problem as there are two bathrooms very close to all 5 bedrooms.Breakfast was a choice of cereal, toast and cooked, tea and fruit juice. This is not a 4 star hotel but for the money (£70)good value, I would say again.

The accomodation was lovely, the breakfast lovely and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly - acting above and beyond the call of duty. Just one problem - they weren't expecting us - not that it mattered. They put the matter right in about 10 seconds. It's just lucky that they hadn't gone out. But I'd certainly recommend The Thistle.

Excellent B&B. Great location. Very clean. The room we had was very big and nicely decorated. The staff where nice and friendly, Freida was great with Harrison and Oliver. Recommended.
